Well another look at the situation involves the examination of revisions to the Community Reinvestment Act and their effects ---more regulations that actually may have exacerbated the problem, if they were not actually the genesis of the problem. The revisions permitted the securitization of CRA loans containing subprime mortgages. There are economists and others who would argue that this government policy/regulation encouraged the rise of the subprime debacle through this type of legislation, which can force banks to lend to otherwise uncreditworthy accounts. Thus I am not sure more regulation is ever the answer.
