If boosting investor confidence is a factor in increasing shareholder value, then the appointment of Brian to the board should be strongly considered by the current CEO and board, along with the appointment of another qualfied and independent person for the other open seat.

We have heard a lot of talk about increasing shareholder value ...... step 1 is staring the board in the face.
