I would like to take the USPTO contingency a bit further. It relates to the flurry of licenses, which came to an abrupt stop for no reason and the apparent carryover of a number of them into the next quarter.
While unlikely, it is possible we may not get anything definitive from the USPTO for quite sometime. What if appeals are involved? We do know the USPTO as well as the courts are not noted for speed. Would TPL/PTSC put their licensing program on hold for 3 months, 6 months, a year, longer? Do we have to wait for both the 336 and 148?
But, what if there is a date certain, which isn't too far off, that could trigger actions even though there is no decision from USPTO? In such a situation wouldn't we attempt to obtain a sufficient amount of license revenue to tide us over until the triggering date? The licensing flurry and the delayed revenue reporting seems to fit that scenario nicley. So we have funds for the current quarter while we wait. My guess is the date certain is the end of the current quarter at the latest. All IMHO Opty
