BOSTON (Reuters) - Unisys Corp has lost its job running the mammoth technology system that manages the U.S. Transportation Security Administration's data operations, an account the company says brings it about $225 million per year.

The information technology services company disclosed the loss on Monday, saying that its contract expires at the end of the year and would not be renewed.

"We are surprised and disappointed by the selection committee's decision," Unisys Federal Systems President Greg Baroni said in a statement. "We are now reviewing our options."

A Unisys spokesman said that one option would be to file a formal appeal of that decision.

Unisys shares fell 15 cents, or 3.7 percent, to $3.87 in late-afternoon trade on the New York Stock Exchange.

The government awarded the contract in August 2002, charging Unisys with tasks ranging from running data centers and personal computers to managing personal digital assistants and secure mobile radios.

A spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
