A status of 'nonfinal action mailed' implies that a non-final office action corresponding to the patent application has been mailed to the applicant who filed the application at the patent office. An office action is generally a mail communication between a patent examiner and the patent applicant/attorney who fights during prosecution of the application. SO, the examiner keeps on generating non-final office actions in which he rejects a few claims of the patent application every time, and finally, if he thinks that the patent application is not worthy of being granted a patent for, he generates a final-office action and mails it to the attorney. The attorney, in such cases, is left with only two options, either to abandon the application or to file a request for continued examination.
Long and strong PTSC.
