Don't know how I ran into this, but find it most interesting.

Sun files US provisional patent 60/187796 in order to obtain the filing date. Apparently uses provisional to get earlier filing date for international PCT/US01/07445,(see continuity) and fails to follow through with a US patent. (It appears that they let that lapse.) One might find that strange. But not when you consider the Title. You really need to read the application.

VLIW (very long inst word) computer processing architecture with on chip DRAM.

From this link it appears that they withdrew the application in Europe and Korea. Still pending in Japan? What do others make of this? Opty
