He may be not bending to the will of the masses here and is damning the torpedoes and forging full speed ahead despite short term "float" consequences. The alternative would be to pump up or whatever for the pricing period and jam the new business partners with share total that might not sit well if the share price didn't hold up. I get it and - yes - I would like to know what RG might be thinking on this particular transaction, but... maybe he is trying to give himself some breathing room from all of the armchair QBs here and is just being decisive without "worrying" about what retail will think or do in the short term. Just a thought and not singling out your post. Just trying to see the other side here.
