Mobi4Biz to debut on Blackberry Bold; Avot launches TipMotion

Alongside a focus on more personalized video content at CTIA, the issue of optimal delivery is being addressed as well. In other mobile video news, tipMotion, a real-time transcoding and streaming technology from Avot Media, was officially launched this week at the conference. According to CEO DeWayne Nelon, the appliance is designed specifically for mobile to eliminate image breakup and buffering, producing instant full-screen video while cutting server processing by up to 90% and reducing network data loads by half.

“If you talk to most service providers today, you’ll find very quickly that you’re going to have a very significant work flow, resource and staffing impact before you can deliver the first video stream,” Nelon said. “In our case, all that goes away. You simply say, ‘Here’s our directory, here’s where the files are,’ and you’re done. It makes it much simpler for you because you don’t have to do anything in advance, whether it be storage, transcoding or things of that nature.”

The result, Nelon added, is a much lower hurtle to clear to move forward on mobile on an ongoing basis. TipMotion doesn’t stream what the encoder actually encoded; it streams what the network and device can bear at that point in time. This capability will constantly be adapted to keep up with the network, he said, to ensure a consistently clear video experience for the end user. According to the company, the appliance can support 1,500 simultaneous VOD streams, the industry’s highest to date.
