Nic Covey of Nielsen predicts that an aggressive carrier will lower the cost of mobile subscription and incorporate advertising subsidization to offset the cost and grow a profitable mobile video business. Unlimited packages will help drive uptake of mobile video with Sprint already the leader in the space at an estimated 1.6 million users of SprintTV. Carriers already make an estimated $288 million in revenues per year from mobile video.
Mobile video is not only starting to look attractive, it’s starting to look essential. Mobile video is innovative, compelling and has become a key part of media brand strategies. In a downturned economy, mobile video could be an opportunity to branch out to new revenue streams, differentiate your product, gain market share, and reach new users.
Mobile is immediate, it’s personal, and it’s ubiquitous. Video is a powerful component of the Internet, and the latest mobile devices clearly embrace the Internet.
