Someone had to invent a way to downsize components and put them on a micro chip. These ideas that take technology to a new level are patentable. It's like saying a horse drawn buggy is the same technology as a ferrari because they both do the same thing. They are both a box on wheels that transport people from point A to point B using a power source. It is obvious how different they are.
