what time frame is involved?

Within 3 months of the notification of the final action, a Notice of Appeal must be filed. Within 2 months from that filing an Appeal Brief has to be submitted, identifying the issues and the corresponding arguments in support.

The original examiner then has to answer directly all the issues raised in the brief. A Reply Brief by TPL can then be filed in response to the examiner's answers.

It then goes to the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences for a decision.
