The SAT grading rubric includes critical thinking and the development of a point of view as one area for evaluation. In order to earn a high score on the essay, students must demonstrate their ability to analyze the topic effectively. Unfortunately, too many students provide examples, but fail to adequately connect them to the question. What may seem obvious to the writer should be made clear so essay readers are not left to fill in gaps or come to their own conclusions.
