Maybe it is my lack of vision here, but what is wrong with Email, Word, excel and powerpoint?

That is by far the platform used by the vast majority of the world to share info, including I would say, every emergency service in the US and Canada.

As it is now, Briefings, security data, and threat assessments, and info sharing all run off microsoft office platforms.

Interoperability has been a huge focus since 9/11. Anyone getting into that game now is way behind. Radio frequencies have been the biggest headache since Marconi started broadcasting. In my sphere, info sharing is not a problem. Info overload is. Info is available for those that want it from everyone from the FBI to interpol. All you need is to be on someones list. There are 44,000,000 hits for fire department homepage on google alone. The other thing , that is very much a bummer is that public agencies are cutting budgets and laying people off. Money for software for existing or new platforms is non existant.
