Credibility vs. legitimate critics

posted on Aug 03, 2009 01:21PM

I pointed it out several times that those "What's your agenda???!!!"-screamings are annoying and destroy any reasonable discussion.

While I recognize it would be helpful to get more information about every poster, because none knows the real intentions of anyone posting here, I have to face the reality of an internet messaging board which is:

Every person posting here is anonymous and that's the condition you have to accept if you visit a messaging board.

Thus the second rule for your visit on a messaging board is to go to the "essence" of every post, ignoring the way it is written and even ignoring, WHO is writing the post.

If I find a thought interesting I do NOT care who wrote it down and in what kind of style. If someone posts a fact I try to confirm it by my own and don't trust the writer (no matter who it is).

Now considering these "rules" I find it very simple to handle all these posts on agoracom: I don't need credibility on a messaging board, I'm looking for different views and, if possible, new facts.

In a nut shell: If Brian expresses his critics in "his" way I only adopt those parts which I find legitimate - does the substance of his words change if he's a cleaning woman, a lawyer or the president of Timbuktu?

I say no - and I would highly appreciate if certain people on this board could stop with their permanent allegations/accusations that anyone here has an AGENDA!

Being here for nearly three years and following this board very close (because I have too much money in stake...) I have the impression everybody who is still here has only ONE agenda and it's simply to recover his losses and increase his holdings (if possible).

Couldn't we all finally accept this as the fundament of this board?
