Yes...good question indeed. What makes these so special?
I've been trying to connect the dots between the USPTO and the past and current litigation especially since the mention in one of Wolfpack's posted Pacers indicating that the court is looking to the USPTO for guidance. Since the reex's are further along now I doubt we'll see another grant for HTC or anybody else.
I also believe Fish & Richardson are representing the J's so when a decision is finally made (by Dec. 30/09 max.) in regards to the '336 (app.# '9457) we may see some action from them along with HTC. Note that NEC America and Toshiba lost their bid on the '336 reex that has a NIRC and as you mentioned, White & Case (HTC) had their '336 reex request denied.
Fish & Richardson, ARM and HTC are the requestors of the recently merged '749 reex's.
NEC America & HTC are the requestors of the recently merged '148 reex's.
Fish & Richardson is the requestor of the only '890 reex.
All very interesting IMHO
