Would someone be so kind as to explain what in the world is going on here?

Need scope, resolving from global level on down.

Who is Chuck Moore?

TPL is the parent corporation of Intellasys.

Intellasys is a company cofounded by Chuck for producing his SeaForth processor.

What part of SeaForth does he own? He made all of the IP and personally backed more than $20M of the $40M invested.

In recent events, everyone on the SeaForth team was fired. Chuck included. TPL has laid claim to his patents and has paid him less than 1/3 of his contract.

edit: This is a summary of Chuck's published views. I am sure TPL's lawyers have very different views. I do hope Chuck's tech survives this.

A business guy took advantage of an engineer who designs insanely cool processors that won't sell because the average developer wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole. Lawyers make money. Trolls flood color forth mailing list.

He's adding a lot to his site very quickly:

I will not conceal the existence of a chip of which I'm proud. I'm dismayed that this wonderful chip may not see the market.

This is really sad. I was looking forward to this chip.

We may still see the chip. Just recently they announced a new product. They might not sell it stateside, though.

Also, from what I can gather, the chip is done. The final testing was planned for 2008Q4, and everyone was fired 2009Q1.

edit: further reading makes this seem less likely. TPL's history is massively towards license and litigation, very little with actual product-making.

so TPL is an patent troll company? Send an cease and desists letter that they either demonstrate working prototypes of their patents or loose said patents
