As the onus is on German companies to ensure that they are not infringing existing patents, I believe DT's attempt to invalidate the '730 was acknowledgement of potential infringement.

The subsequent revalidation makes me think that this has brought not only them but also other German companies much closer to negotiating a license, Leica Camera being the most recent.
