Short sellers can only make money if: (1) the sp goes down when they sell short and (2) they can buy (cover) most of what they sold without substantially increasing the sp.
Naked short selling is risky, and when there's little daily volume that risk increases. Short selling a large position in a low volume stock makes you the market mover. Yes you move the sp down when you sell a large amount of stock short. But then you move it back up when you try to cover and take your profits. My guess is that only a incompetent naked short seller would want to trade in PTSC with our typically low volume days.
If short selling was such a money maker why aren't we all doing it? Because we think it's a sin? I'd say no, it's because it's very risky and you don't always win.
