I am unaware that there are any "open slots" for which Caplan could be nominated, and would be grateful for the source or confirmation of this information.
When seeking an executive officer, I could fully understand the need for a person experienced in their respective field to manage the operational side but still wonder why the same depth and breadth of skills would be a prerequisite for the independent non-executive members of the BoD who would be receiving a tenth of their compensation.
As to Falk's perceived lack of business experience, I just wonder if he was Director of Anesthesia, member of a medical executive committee, and Chairman of a Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, because of some family connection.
