Patriot Data Solutions Group’s (PDSG) core business is the development and deployment of a software solution called the Crossflo DataExchange (CDX). CDX is a middleware solution that implements standards-based data exchanges, primarily focused on the justice and public safety market. PDSG is looking for an Information Sharing Engineer to work with subject matter experts to deploy solutions that connect to customers’ data sources and transform these data into standard XML formats.
The successful candidate will have experience as a database administrator (DBA), including deployment of databases in an enterprise setting, as well as XML for information sharing.
An Information Sharing Engineer (ISE) is responsible for implementing, deploying, and maintaining data sharing projects at customers’ sites. The majority of this work is done in our San Diego office remotely, with occasional travel needed. A subject matter expert (SME) in the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) on staff defines the data model to be used for data sharing projects. This information is captured in XML schema and accompanying documentation that the ISE uses to extract data from customer’s databases and transform (using the CDX toolset) it to meet the specifications.
These data exchanges are then deployed on servers at the customer sites, and run on a scheduled basis to extract incremental changes in the data sources and provide extracts to target systems. A typical project will make use of SQL for data extraction, file creation, secure ftp, and message queues to accomplish the proper data exchanges. XML data will need to be created (conforming to the supplied XML schema) and in some instances may need to be ingested as a data input.
Data can be extracted from any of the major database systems (eg. Oracle, Informix, MS SQL Server, MySQL, etc.) and may involve the integration of web services as part of the solution. Once the solution is deployed, ongoing maintenance is required.
Typical responsibilities include some or all of the following:
• Work with in-house SMEs to understand data exchanges to be implemented
• Develop SQL queries to extract appropriate data, identifying ways to locate incremental changes
• Use the CDX mapping tool to transform data into XSD formats as specified by the SME
• Design and develop data exchanges, which make use of SQL queries, message queues, file shares, and mapping files to effect exchanges
• Install and configure CDX software on customer networks, working with customer IT personnel to understand security policies
• Work with Quality Assurance and Product Development team to understand where product defects may be an issue and provide suggestions for product enhancements
Required Skills
• XML and XML Schema
• SQL
• Message Queues and Enterprise Service Bus deployments
• Experience with J2EE servlet containers
• Javascript and other beanshell scripting languages
• Windows Server and linux administration
• Experience with multiple database vendors (Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft most important)
