I acknowledge that those are qualities that one would want in any candidate as part of his/her qualifications.

If those are sufficient for you, that is fine. But can you understand some folks wanting a bit more? Heck I fill those minimal requirements, but I assure you I'm not BoD material. And my wanting the spot would not change that fact.
