What has happened is that the BOD, et al. has provisionally won for their attitude of doing whatever the hell they want. Actually for not doing whatever they don't want to do, in this case, show something even more important than increasing share price, that is, show that they are characters with a sense that things, such as great inventions or innovations, have an intrinsic value, which recognition should lead to preserving them and promoting them, which tends to lead to healthy profit as a side-effect.
