There is a defined value that TPL/PTSC has assigned to the MMP. This has been kept secret by TPL/PTSC under the guise of protecting negoiations and maximizing MMP value.
The REALITY is that TPL has protected it and required PTSC to do so as well under the guise of a marketing strategy of "first mover discounts", but in reality it was so that they could play with the license fees to their advantage, at PTSC's expense. I've argued here for years that it should be NO SECRET what the MMP value is. Just as Rambus, and other companies have pretty well known royalty rates, you establish your market value, make it known and in doing so legitimize it, and prosecute infringement either through licenses, settlements, or litigation. To leave it vague or undefined under the pretense that you might get more through negotiations was folly back then, and continues to be today.
It has served no one but TPL, and has cost no one but PTSC Retail Shareholders! That our BOD ddin't forsee that years ago shows their lack of grasp of the business theyre in, IMO. That they continue to dance with TPL on this issue is an indictment of them, and a reinforcement of their willingness to sacrifice retail shareholders interests for the protection of their own and those they serve.
