Wow! Based on my 35 years of experience working in public companies, I have to say that if a "real" company board member ever made such a comment, most stock holders would vote them off the board or start legal proceedings to oust them; not only for incompetence but also for their failure to come up with a better excuse for their record of ineptitude.
