Whenever I sign any contract / agreement with a supplier, usually there is a clause in there put in by me that the supplier certifies that their product does not infringe any patents or they should clearly mention patent numbers under which that item is made.

I'm sure these provisions are in every agreement. So in this very scenario is it good to assume that somebody at some level is lying or taking the risk of paying up later?
