I'm not sure what the advantage for Apple to buy the MMP would be - when I first read the sentence by Leckrone "sometimes you get more than money when you license" I thought about what karlwest said:
"HTC is Apple's largest competitor in the handset market"
So what kind of advantage would both PTSC/TPL and Apple have in the light of the current T3-litigation to somehow "partner" against HTC?
Could Apple deliver special data to PTSC/TPL? But then what is the benefit for Apple?
Besides HTC had to pay ONE or TWO billion $$$ (;-)) how would even a $ 100mio license fee paid by HTC effect the competition between HTC (asian company) and Apple (US-company)?
Maybe the math was that easy:
Instead of paying $50mio Apple paid $5mio because PTSC/TPL thinks they get a lot more than the difference of $45mio from HTC BECAUSE OF APPLE'S SUPPORT.
Wishful thinking? Absolutely!
;-)
As long as we wait for Judge Ware's decision we can only speculate or lurk...
