it always was and always will be. Infact, I believe one of the most powerful leverage points PTSC had in forming the JV with TPL in the first place, was the benefit of elevating TPL from Patent Troll status, to "Designer/Manufacturer" status.
1. It does appears TPL was just sitting on the patents, but PTSC wasn't.
2 PTSC is a Co-Party to these law suits.
3. PTSC did develop and fabricate two complete microchips, the "PSC1000 Shboom", and the "Ignite"; both which infact did contain MMP patent features. The "Shboom" chip design utilized by GENROCO held the word record in achieving (1997) the world's fastest Data Transfer rates. The "Ignite" chip was designed and fabricated and it's testing results were published, documented, and favorably compared to both (in some areas exceeded) ARM, MIPS and others; by an independent 3rd party study. (Tucci's DD page likely has the link to those results)
4. PTSC spent years attempting to commercialize the Ignite. Even though they were unsuccessful on a commercial scale, they did have some minor sales success.
...... Therefore, TPL, by virtue of PTSC being their licensing JV Partner, and a Co-Party of the suit along with them, is NOT a Patent Troll.
There are other more recent considerations that I can write about this "leverage" analysis, but that's for another time.
