Acer: US Patent Investigation Won't Significantly Affect Operations
Taiwanese personal computer maker Acer Inc. (2353.TW) said Thursday it is being investigated by the U.S. International Trade Commission over alleged chipset-related patent infringements, but that it doesn't expect the probe to have a significant impact on its operations.
The complaint was filed by U.S. companies Technology Properties Ltd. LLC, Patriot Scientific Corp. (PTSC) and Phoenix Digital Solutions LLC, the Taiwanese firm said.
"The alleged claim of infringement goes back to as early as 2007, when Acer filed a lawsuit against TPL on grounds that TPL's patents are invalid. Subsequently, TPL counter-filed against Acer on patent infringement and reported the dispute to the U.S. ITC," the statement said, without elaborating.
Acer is the world's biggest notebook maker by shipments.
