By no means, however, will such companies simply cough up large amounts of money in any given situation merely because lawsuits are threatened or filed, or because they will be required to defend themselves.
Would this same scenario actually bring on lawsuits from companies like ours where the attorneys stand to get rich regardless of the outcome. If I represent a company and they charge 500k for a license and I negotiate it I might make 25k but if I get a company like Barco that is willing to fight for principal to eliminate the snowball effect and is willing to spend millions upon milliions to not pay the 500k. My firm will make millions as well so I guess if my product is sound I would prefer companies like Barco.
