California's Patriot Scientific Corp. says it sold to Hartford's United Technologies Corp. a patent portfolio license covering technology for engineering personal computers, cell phones, portable music players and other digital and electronic devices.

Neither company responded immediately late Tuesday to HartfordBusiness.com inquiries for comment about how UTC intends to use the patent license.

UTC is best known for making jet engines, elevators, heating-cooling systems, military and civilian helicopters, and fuel cells.

Based in Carlsbad, Calif., Patriot didn't disclose the financial or other terms in its announcement of the license sale on its trademarked Moore Microprocessor Patent Portfolio.

The portfolio includes seven U.S. patents as well as their European and Japanese counterparts, which cover techniques that enable higher performance and lower cost designs essential to consumer and commercial digital systems ranging from PCs, cell phones and portable music players to communications infrastructure, medical equipment and automobiles.
