Moore/Greenarrays is a drop in the ocean of chip innovation and given manufacturing processes, it isn't cost effective to come up with radically new designs that current manufacuring processes can't accomodate. Look up how much it costs an Intel or other chip manufacturer to build a chip manufacturin plant = a billion + dollars. The latest, greatest chip innovation in my layman's opinion is the optical interconnect that IBM just announced which can be manufactured within current processes without building new plants. Chip speeds will continue to track at Gordon Moore's law due to this innovation. IBM with probably billions in R&D. Greenarrays has very intelligent folks working there, but IMO it is a question of numbers. IBM probably has 1000s of PHDs in electrical engineering, as does Samsung, and on and on. Now Greenarrays could patent a novel idea again certainly, but IMO the innovation they had (Moore and Fish) is a once in a lifetime invention. Optical interconnects will push things forward and quantum computing is still in the lab. Interesting times ahead ...
