When I first learned of a possible settlement I thought it would good to finally end this. However, after reading your post and thinking about it I conclude you are absolutely right. To end the appeal on a settlement would, as you say, "be opening up a strategy of almost endless litigation and Appeal, and welcoming duplicative legal strategies by those Parties straight out of the HTC playbook." That is the last thing we want to happen.
