IMO, It's even likely HTC happily gave a premium as incentive to help massage the settlement to completion.

This is what I wrote about it the other day before the news..

The HTC settlement, with the landscape of other Industry heavyweights immediately pending in the Federal Courts, did not happen in a vacuum. I certainly believe this was sanctioned and coordinated, a strategic play that allows the negative ITC Ruling and threat of renewed Federal intervention to hover over all future discussions and Licensing considerations involving the MMP. Don't think this will not will have a chilling effect on our leveraging and negotiating for higher licensing fees.

Do you think HTC cares about the amount of the $960K award, that their Appeal was sincerely done to knock that award down ? They were simply the Canary, going deeper and deeper into the coal mine to benefit the position of others; they had a job to do and they did it. The patents were challenged as an industry campaign, we know that, so don't think this pivotal moment does not have the same collective fingerprints on it.

The HTC settlement is now yesterday's news, but it's impact on our licensing leverage will be with us for all the Tomorrows.
