You guys are all slightly older than me. I remember Huff, Brown, Y.A. Tittle, Del schoffner but some of that is beyond me.
I think Roger Marris was the big paycheck guy. It seems like I remember reading it.
My favorite players in baseball were BOSOX guys, Tony Conigliaro, Frank Malzone, Jimmy Piersall, Ted Williams, Stan " the man" Musial , Cardinals fame in baseball. In football, how about Babe Parrilli, UK, Patriots fame, Jim Nance, my hometown favorite Nick Buonaconti, Dolphins great and young Carl Yastremski (to take the place of Ted Williams). These were heroes to me. I went to my first and only major league All Star baseball game at Fenway Park, what a thrill with Dad. I got one autograph, Sam Jones, Celtics fame, at an All Star baseball game? go figure. My Father before he died, quit watching professional baseball. After the baseball strike, that was it . No mas. My Uncle Joe and I would discuss what was going on in depth, but not Dad. He was disillusioned and never would forgive.
Then we look at the idols children have today. Senator Mitchell, good luck in destroying these guys that tell kids win at all costs and lead them astray with their "pump you up " mentality. They have destroyed the home of the heroes I had as a child. They deserve whatever punishment the law will allow. There lies the inflation that really bothers me.
