You poor youngsters missed all the fun of the late '30's. America was the greatest nation in the world, almost everyone had very little money, there was only radio and everyone in the neighborhood knew everyone else. You didn't even need to lock your doors.
Sid Abel wasn't a baseball player, he was a hockey player with the Red Wiings and eventually became the captain of the team. When he played ball with us for a few minutes in the evenings, it was early in his career. Later, he and Gloria moved to greener pastures. I'm sure that there was a significant salary increase.
He was a very nice guy (as a young man, at least) and I'm glad I had the opportunity to know him.
