Hmmmm
Several cell phone companies, including Verizon and Sprint (which merged with Nextel last year), have now launched authorized services that use the GPS receiver to give you directions, or track your kids, but you have to buy those services and they're only available on certain phones.
Lots of uses for GPS tracking other than cell phones - T-Moble has a division working with a GPS company called Zoombak (privately held) - zoombak supplies the devices used for prisoner tracking.
LBAS device packaging way smaller and has a (rechargeable) battery with lifespan 2 to 3X beyond Zoombak. BTW, LBAS undercuts Zoombak pricing by 35%
GTXO just came on the market with a device having a larger PC board footprint than LBAS device in its packaging. Also no mention of power consumption (not a selling point?)
The GPS tracking sector is expected to heat up over the next 5 years.
Success in any type of tracking is made easier if the packaging is small and power consumption is slight.
Think outside the box...
