Fat,
I'm going to have to go with Jhawk on this one. I took Ancient Western Civilization in school also, so I understand the academic worlds viewpoint on this subject. But as a Christian it's hard at times for me to have what I learned in school jive with what I have learned and believe in the bible.
Many scientists and scholars believe in God. How is it that in a universe of billions upon billions of stars and galaxies, we are the only known intelligent life? I'm sure mans understanding of the universe hasn't even scratched the surface yet. But why is it that in our existing knowledge of the universe, we're all there is?
I can't prove God as a fact. It's clearly a thing of faith. But at the same time, many people believe things as fact that are at most theories; global warming for example. It is not a fact that man is the cause of global warming. At most it's a very disputed theory. And yet people accept it as fact.
The U.S. being in a recession. For the last year or two, many people talk of this as fact. But it's not true. It may come to pass. In fact I'm kind of expecting it. But it hasn't been in a recession for the last year or more.
I guess my point is that facts are facts; undisputable and proven. Theories are not. God cannot ever be proven scientifically. But that doesn't make him not so.
