Please cite some proof that Palin believes the universe is 10K years old. You won't be able to as it's not true. Her comments that creationism should be taught along side of evolution are and were on the basis that more information is better than less and simply in the interest of expanding the debate and education going on in schools. Also, you continue to want to pigeon hole creationism as a strict 7 day process when most who believe in creationism do not interpret it literally that way. Your either ignorant of her views, disingenous in your comments, or trying to be intentionally misleading in an effort to diminish people's view of Sarah Palin by including comments like that in your post.
As for global warming, while I certainly am a promoter of green technology and enviromental conservation in balance, man-made global warming is by far a certain science. Obviously mankind contributes to environmental issues that may in part affect the planets natural cycles, but it is by no means a quantifiable proven fact and is thus still a theory. Similarly, 40 years ago there was a global cooling theory. In my opinion, like in most matters, mankind has a much too high opinion of ourselves and how well we can and do control the world in which we live. We are an arrogant creature in that regard and for you to dismiss scientists who disagree only proves that point. The truth is, regardless of which side you fall on, there are a very few number of scientists on our planet that specialize in the type of study that CAN prove or disprove global warming. Most of those cited on both sides have very peripheral knowledge of the subject, and look at it mainly from the impact it has on their field of study, not on the actual origins of it. In many ways, it's the equivalent of asking people to comment on the cause of the current economic crisis. We've all got opinions.
As an anectodal illustrator, I'll offer you this. I live in Las Vegas, and when you consider that there are many days when it is over 100 degrees or higher here and where it has been that for weeks on end and when even during the nights it doesn't get below 90. However, at times during those extended periods of heat with no relief , in the matter of less than 15 minutes, during storms, the temperature can drop 40 degrees! I've been in many countries and other parts of the US where I've experienced that type of temperature change in a matter of minutes. The point is, when mother nature can swing the temperature of 100 square miles by 40 percent in a matter of 15 minutes, I think it tends to indicate that we tend to exxagerate our importance to the ecosystem of our planet.
Again, that's not to say we ALL shouldn't do what we can to improve the environment and to minimize our impact on it. As for Kyoto, unless any such agreement is universally applicable to ALL countries, why should the US sign it? The US already does more unilaterally to modify our own emissions than most countries do. We already hold ourselves to a higher standard anyway, so why should we sign something that would have put us at a disadvantage economically not just to our own country, but also by doing so weakened our ability to provide all the aid that we do internationally. It was a flawed agreement, and needs to be improved before we should sign anything like it.
