Bailout...

Tough call, damned if you do damned if you don't...IMO. Personally, rather than see the government hand over a bunch of cash and simply prolong the agony, I think they (Government) should provide incentives/assistance for Americans to buy American cars. Personally I won't buy American, as I feel they are crap, but maybe if the Government provides incentives, tax breaks, etc, the American Auto Industry can turn it around. If Americans still don't buy American cars....than they go BK and the Government didn't throw a bunch of money down the toilet. Personally I would prefer that Government gave the money to the Silicon Valley entrepreneurs who are working on the electric car industry like Tesla or Wrightspeed. Time for a complete overhaul of the industry IMO, and if Detroit can't step up and lead the change, than why waste the money on them? Many industries are being forced to change. Just look at what the internet has done to the business models for many industries, i.e. Movie Rentals, Music Industry, Newspapers, Gaming, etc etc. These industries had to change to survive, why doesn't the Auto Industry wake up and change?

And while I am on this soapbox...LOL The mortgage bailout has me miffed as well. I have a Jumbo Mortgage with a fixed 30 year 6 1/4 interest rate. I have never missed or been late on a payment. I have never even bounced a check in my life. Don't get me wrong, I have worked hard plus a little luck and maybe I am fortunate than most. I also realize that sometimes bad things happen to the best of us and we fall on hard times. I know this because I grew up pretty poor and watched my parents struggle. Anyways, I have a friend who owns his own construction company, and times being the way they are his business is slow and he got behind in his payments. He had a interest only loan. So, he calls the bank and tells them his story, next day, a Fedex package arrives with new loan docs for a 40 year 4% fixed mortgage loan. I am happy for him, but this option is not available to me becasue I am not behind on my mortgage and I have assets that can be liquidated. I understand both sides and like I said earlier, damned if we do damned if we don't, so I know that if we turn our backs on those who need help, than the economy as a whole will crumble and all will be adversely affected. But, it sure is tough working hard trying to make something...being right on that line of just making it and getting no help. I know...cry me a river! LOL

The best of luck to all of us.
