As to who pays taxes, the top 1% paid more taxes than the bottom 95% combined; that is unsustainable, not to mention teetering on being morally reprehensible.
No what's reprehensible is that incomes for the lowest earners have remained flat while the wages for the higher earners (arguably the least productive and someitmes the most counterproductive -think TARP) have risen.

Note the dramatic decrease in the earnings of the middle quintile (middle class)
Contrast these figures by effective tax rates and you will see what's truly reprehensible.
