(Kitco News) -- Global lead demand will rise by close to 6% in 2011, but world refined lead production is not growing as fast as the demand, says BNP Paribas. The acceleration in global lead usage for the automotive industry as well as electric bicycles and lead-acid batteries has outpaced supply and production. BNP Paribas says that “lead producers will increasingly struggle to keep up with such demand growth.” The growth has until recently been dominated by China, but the latest mine closure of Magellan means that it’s uncertain when and if it will restart, further hampering future lead output potential.
