The usual current figure for the Ring of Fire is $60 billion ($10 billion for nickel, copper, pgms - Noront and $50 billion for chromite.

Well-respected former head of the Canadian Geological Survey - Jim Franklin - estimates that $60 billion figure could easily double and then some!

However, he is very excited about the potential of gold in the Ring and more so in the greenstone belts to the west - Goldcorp's Musselwhite gold mine - where he estimates that $140 to $190 billion is in the ground.

This is based on the similar geology and richness of the Abitibi-Greenstone belt running from Timmins through Kirkland Lake and into northwestern Quebec.
