The Watertown Police Department is set to enforce its ban on texting while driving.
The Watertown Police Department issued a news release Thursday stating the ban will be enforced starting January 11, 2013.
The ordinance bans the use of electronic communications devices, such as cell phones and other electronic devices which communicate, read or send an "electronic message" when people are either driving or sitting in traffic behind the wheel of a vehicle.
Examples of actions violating the ordinance include text messaging, email, instant
messaging or a command or a request to access a World Wide Web page, according to Watertown police.
Drivers caught in violation of the law face a $200 fine.
