Zinc....what you say is not necessarily true. The military researches and develops many things that eventually are used in civilian consumer and commercial applications. Examples from my business are numerous (aviation).

Regardless of the dumbing down that is required for civilian apps, often their breakthroughs make it to the consumer, one way or another.
