It was MIT. It says about halfway through the article that before they subjected it to rigorous testing before sending it NASA.

Out of all the organizations gunning for POETs market, MIT is one of the top threats. I still recall the "almost" optoelectronic chip and various other achievements.

Still, they have the press but IMO they don't collectively have the IP to make a focused move toward commercialization AFAIK.

We are very close and anyone else, like an academic org such as MIT, who wants to get in ahead of us better get the lead out. The threat posed by those types of organizations diminishes every day as we plug away on milestones and shop our current chips.

The danger of IBM developing a cheap hybrid solution is really the only thing that keeps me up at night:-)
