Strictly speaking POET deserves it's own report. POET could create a PIC, but it's not limited to be only a PIC like what's in this report. The best thing about POET is that it can be electronic and/or photonic!

The technology described in this report can only be used for optical applications. PICs were the weapon of choice of our old friend 2guys back on SH. He just couldn't understand that some of the companies on this list (I think Infinera was his favourite) could fill *one* market, but none of them can make a transistor. None of them will do any of the kind of processing that your desktop of tablet will do. So in the end POET could be a competitior in their space, while being a competitor in memory and general computing processing, etc. In fact POET could destroy half of these companies if delivered into the market properly.

And the bottom line is that POET, as far as the market is concerned, isn't a product at this time. Until we can all pick up a new device with "POET Inside" I don't expect them to appear in any similar report.
