i think the original contribution is $5000.00/ year, and they are giving us an extra $5500.00 this year.

It’s the 5th anniversary of the tax-free savings account (TFSA) and we think you may want to celebrate. Actually, the government thinks you should too: as of January 1st, you have an additional $5,500 in contribution room. When added to previous years, this is a whopping $31,000 you can invest tax-free.
