Indeed, a tsunami builds up offshore. Its strength and power is hidden below the surface and can hardly be noticed with the bare eye. Only specialized tsunami detectors set up by experts can "see" it, not the general public.

The tsunami has to travel a very long way to reach the coast and some might think it won't ever get there, given the long time it is underway already.

But once the tsunami hits the shore, it unfolds its strength, build up to a huge wave and washes away all the old silicon stuff. – Oops, I guess I mixed up the images here.
