IMO, car makers will only switch to a new chip tech if the cost difference affects BOM in a big way. They have to spend some time and money adopting to the new tech. An ECU for my Accord is $100 for example. Economies of scale will play a big part in this decision-making to adopt a new tech. Don't get me wrong because I hope they do.
