I am sorry I have to disagree, Krom, but the 200 mm are the wafer size, not the node size. The article doesn't say anything about node size at all, so my impression is that they have just managed to combine GaN with Si in standard fab processes to produce wafers. This is nice of course but not new to us POET fans.

Such wafers would be the foundation for more R&D with the goal of developing chips with whatever capabilities. The article doesn't mention any concrete capabilities such chips could have, namely any optical capabilities.

I believe they might be on the right way but nowhere near production-ready like POET. And, as I said, the optical stuff is rather remote. Those with some semiconductor knowledge please correct me!
